Oscar night came and went, but boy, did it make an everlasting memory! Just like the Super Bowl, hopefully, you made it until the end to see the twist. Both of these events this year had the surprise ending that makes for great TV. What is now being dubbed the envelopegate caused for quite the stir at such a late hour.
If for some reason you have missed the show or the news, La La Land was announced as the winner for Best Picture. This was expected since everyone predicted it to win. As the producers were making their speeches, suddenly there was a lot of movement on stage. Before long, Moonlight was being announced as the real winner.
In all of this, I think it is important not to blame the presenters. They were given the Best Actress card which had just been announced. Warren Beatty fumbled around for a minute because he knew something was wrong. After showing it to Faye Dunaway, she quickly read the movie that was on the card although it did read “Best Actress Emma Stone in La La Land“. After this debacle, the producers of La La Land were gracious in their loss, and congratulated the Moonlight producers. The end result was a lesson for all in humility, and everyone makes mistakes even accountants who promised the world that these issues never happen. Never say never! Check out the video here.
Sunday is the big day! Are you ready? Did you see any of the movies? Did you cast your votes?
Every year, a good friend and I get together to watch the Oscars. Since we cast our ballots as though we are part of the Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences, we had to have our own award. We are still campaigning for the Academy to give us a real Oscar, but in the meantime we have a trophy for one of us to take home for selecting the most winners correctly.
To prepare for the Oscars, we do our homework. We always see all of the Best Picture nominees, and then we try to see a few others that have been nominated for some of the other big awards. Having kids means I always see the animated films, which allows me to knock out another category.
This year’s Best Picture nominees are all phenomenal. If you are looking for a great film, definitely pick from this list! The Best Picture Nominees are Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight. For a full description of these movies, click here for my previous post. Most of these movies are now available to rent. If you are able to have an Oscar marathon this weekend, you could be caught up before the big event on Sunday evening.
And the Oscar Goes to…
I have always loved to people-watch but recently have caught myself people-watching for style ideas. I have begun to notice things that I once thought were either fashion no-no’s or too funky for me, but surprisingly my eyes have been opened to appreciate what I’m seeing! Maybe it’s because I’m seeing these things on real people in my real life. Sincerely Megan posted in our first week about her feelings on wearing black and navy. It kind of made her twitch, but I have learned to really like it! For the first time in my life, I am at the point where I willing to put at least a toe outside of my regular style box. Maybe even ruffle a few feathers a long the way! So far, it’s been fun! I’m definitely on chapter one of this journey but excited to explore in it. Here is where I have begun…
NOTE: The free promotion has ended since this post was published. You can still try Stitch Fix by following this link: http://bit.ly/2mkgkyQ. The styling fee is $20, and if you keep something, the $20 is applied to your purchase. Free return shipping in postage paid envelope! The word EXPIRED has replaced the old link in the post. It will be replaced if the deal ever comes along again!
Try Stitch Fix TOTALLY free! This is the first time I’ve seen this deal, so you must take advantage. I wasn’t planning on blogging about Stitch Fix until my next fix came, but this bargain was too good not to share. So, I begrudgingly changed out of my PJs at 10 PM on a Friday night and into tank tops for headless pictures to tell you all about it. You’re welcome! Read on to learn more, or skip it and just follow this link for a $25 credit: EXPIRED
What is Stitch Fix?
Another LOVE of mine is getting a beautiful ‘Badgley Mischka’ designer dress for only $35 when the sticker price is $750. HOW?
RENT the RUNWAY
My office was having a fancy Winter Celebration party. I had heard of RENT the RUNWAY and wanted to try it but never had the occasion to warrant renting a glamorous dress…up until we heard about the office party. So I decided to give it a try. This is my very first RENT the RUNWAY experience. How does it work?
Valentine’s Day week is here. It’s not a holiday I’m particularly in love with as it really seems like just more “stuff” I have to do — 1) buy valentines for school, 2) hide under a blanket eating my kids candy and 3) pick up all the kids’ valentines in their bedrooms and pitch them. That last part usually doesn’t happen until April when I’m sick of walking on them, but you can bet I nail that second item down by 3:21 pm on the 14th. I’m not a particularly mushy person, but there are some things I love at this particular moment in time that I wanted to share with you. Disclosure: Of course I love my husband and family, but this blog is our escape time so they don’t make this list.
Scarves aren’t just another thing to layer on to keep you warm when you’re going skiing or out to shovel snow…there are a million and one different types of scarves from infinity, blanket, summer, men’s…and a million and one different ways to wear them. Over the past year, I’ve learned a lot about accessorizing with scarves and it’s gradually become a key staple in my wardrobe. Scarves are such a quick, easy, and affordable way to add a dash of fun and color to your look.
I’d like to share with you just two of my favorite scarves.
Oscar season is a fun time for me. A close friend and I make it priority to get to the theater and see all of the Best Picture Nominees. If we are lucky, we will also see some of the other films that have nominations for Best Actress, Best Actor, etc. Because life is busy, we have started trying to predict what will be nominated so we can see some of the movies in the fall. It is such a fun season for me because I love the movies, and I don’t always get to the movies other times of the year. More importantly, it is a fun tradition with my friend, and I can’t imagine not ever seeing these movies with her. In our busy lives, we always have this time together. It is so special to me!
Well, it’s February which means it’s time to talk about what failures we are because we bailed on our resolutions. Take one of my resolutions for example, “Less time on social media.” Obviously, my first step was starting a blog with friends that runs on several social media platforms. #killingit
Luckily, much like “my kid is a stubborn beast” becomes “my child is spirited,” your resolutions can also be spun to show your success. Clearly I meant spend less time on social media that makes me want to rip my hair out. So, I really am making baby steps towards success and am not a total resolution loser. We started a blog of fun stuff we like and discuss things that help us escape from our everyday responsibilities. You will not find controversy here that will rip people apart. Well, maybe a few topics will. For example, here are the things that are keeping me up at night:
Today I’m talking about my favorite playlist. I call it my “running mix” mostly because that is the initial reason why I created it. A few months ago, I completed two half marathons (a HUGE accomplishment for a self proclaimed non-runner like me) and couldn’t have done it without this miracle music. But quite honestly, this playlist has turned into my go-to music for just plain ME time. What is it, you ask? Ready for it? —Old school hip hop or at least what I consider old school. Continue reading
